27th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows - Washington, D.C. Highlights

Here are some pics I took from the 2008 show. The first four pics are from The History of Speed showcase. Another great show that seems to get better every year. Very cool meeting the variety of motorcycle and chopper fans, riders and enthusiasts of all ages from all over the states.

This first classic bike is a 1937 Harley-Davidson Streamliner. In 1937, Joe Petrali broke the land speed record on board this specially built streamlined Harley-Davidson, clocking in 136.183 in the mile in Daytona Beach - a record that held for 11 years. Petrali was the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Life Member #1 and won an astounding 49 AMA national championships races throughout his career. I really liked the yellow color and the classic smooth, clean design on this one.
This second bike is known as The Fastest Motorcycle In The World. It is the creation of Dennis Manning and called BUB "#7" Streamliner. This incredible bike set the land speed record in September 2006, with rider Chris Carr at the helm, registering 350.885 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I took a close up pic of the engine!
This third bike is called the Leo Payne 104 Bike. In 1969, the 200 mph mark was reached when Leo Payne's highly modified 1957 Harley-Davidson Sportster, also known as "Turnip Eater." exceeded this astonishing speed milestone. Payne's monumental 1969 BOnneville Salt Flats performance helped kick-start S&S Cycle's successful line of racing carburetors. Additionally, Payne was inducted inton the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in1991 for making motorcycle history. I liked the cool, sporty, built for speed design of this one.
This fourth bike is called the S&S Cycle's "Tramp III," the celebrated bike that set the record for fastest single engine motorcycle with a whooping average top speed of 226.148. Sleek!
This is a bike that caught my eye called "Revelation" that was in another section of the show. It had Biblical passages on both sides of the tank and on the tail fender. On the side here you see Ezekiel 25:17 "I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes; and they will know that I am the YAHWEH when I lay My vengeance on them." The quote made me think of Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction as his character liked to quote that passage so much though he altered it for the movie.
This bike is a Kawasaki Custom called The Baron. Looks like a red baron from a story or a movie doesn't it?
This bike was highly anticipated. It is Suzuki's Custom L-R-G 2008 Hayabusa.

Harley-Davidson celebrates their 105th Anniversary. Their slogan this year is "For All Those Who Have Been Bad".
This bike is a Restored 1953 Vincent Black Shadow. Caught my eye. I had to come back to see it again before I left and talked to the guys from the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum.
These nest 10 pics are from the Custom Bikes section of the show. Out of all the custom bikes, these caught and held my attention the most.
Yes, those are actual TV Monitors this guy designed into his bike.
Another view of the side rear and the little TVs. Absolutely incredible work and very creative! Each screen on the bike had a different video or movie running on it!

I first read about the movie, "On Any Sunday" in Walneck's Classic Cycle Trader last week while flipping through their January 2008 30th Anniversary Issue. Buzz Walneck mentioned it in his monthly feature stories section's DVD review and it caught my attention. On Any Sunday was also mentioned at Cycle World's Motorcycle Show on media day by one of the many presenters.
According to Buzz Walneck, "In 1970 Bruce Brown and Steve McQueen produced the original film. Steve McQueen financed it, and Bruce Brown and his crew shot and produced what is still probably the bet motorcycle film to this day."
I'm really looking forward to seeing the newly released 2-DVD set. In the meantime, I did find some clips posted on YouTube!
